Penguin Books

Concept & Features: Penguin Books wanted to collaborate with young designers to develop a range of covers for several of its bestselling book titles. The team asked each designer to nominate and design two book titles of their choosing, in addition to requesting that the covers resonate with the plot while remaining innovative and inspiring. The design approach was simple in style, with illustrative elements throughout, allowing for refinement and whimsy. Each proposed cover is distinct in look, yet they have the same underlying design language, which connects them in identity. The designs make use of contrast and negative space in a distinctive way that complements the fonts and visuals. The new covers feature an illustration that was purposefully developed to depict and capture the heart of each narrative, providing visual cues to the intended reader.
